19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He rescued 4 early break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
